Giclée Printing
LePix specializes in Fine Art Giclée Reproductions. We establish a close relationship with each one of our client artists seeking to expand their work revenue by making their artworks available in form of fine art reproductions. Below are some of the steps involved in the process of creating a giclée:
Artwork Capture:
The first step in order to make a giclée is to perform a capture of your artwork, and there are different ways to do this:
* film
* positive slide
* scan
* drum-scan or
* digital capture
The way in which your artwork is captured, will impact the quality of the final print. Nowadays high resolution digital files are ideal for giclée reproductions, since they save additional steps in the process of digitizing and in most cases, render better results. Digital files are available in different specifications; At LePix we offer you with the following options:
1. Web-res: Jpg files (optimized) usable only for web viewing, prepared at 72dpi (unless otherwise indicated), sRBG color, and a max of 1000 pixels on the longest side.
2. Normal: Jpg files at full resolution (8bit), Adobe 1998 color, sized to match the artwork, usable for printing but not for post-processing or archiving.
3. High: 16 bit Tiff/PSD uncompressed files in Adobe 1998 color space, ideal for archiving, post processing and printing. We prefer to use these format files since they encompass a wider color gamut and information.
4. Raw: If you wish a Raw format capture, your file will be captured using Adobe 1998 color, zeroed adjustments. You will need a raw file converter in order to make adjustments.
Color Correction, Soft-Proofing and Proofing:
Is the process of preparing, correcting and fine tuning the your digital file for optimal output to a selected paper, media or canvas. This step is crucial in order to create a giclée reproduction as close as possible to the original.
1. Our technician will correct the color and feel of the digital capture to the media that you chose for printing.
2. Once corrected, we set up an appointment with you to approve a soft-proof.
3. After your approval we either print another test strip or the final.
You need to be aware of the limitations of the media and files while matching your artwork to the original. Services are charged on a -per hour- basis and vary depending on the complexity of the artwork (glossy, foil or mirror surfaces demand a more intensive and meticulous job)
Printing:
Once all of the above steps are completed we proceed to print the output by demand; you can order 1 or as many reproductions you may need. Since we do not file orders, A cd/dvd will be provided to you to archive the corrected file for future orders.
